Would anyone be interested in starting a weeknight mini out at Audubon with me? I just moved down the street from the course a few weeks ago, and would like to start a regular weeknight game that could eventually turn into a mini (depending on turn-out).

I was thinking wednesday night would be good, since paschall no longer has a mini that night. Maybe 6pm? I'd want to run this by the course contact (whoever that is) before starting an actual mini...but would anyone be down to start a standing doubles game (for cash, plastic, or just for fun) for right now?

Reply if you're interested...ill plan on being at the course next Wed @ 6 regardless.

Sweet! I'm glad you guys are as excited as I am! Spread the word around, maybe we can get a big group...

Anybody have a preferance on whether or not we play for cash or plastic? I figured if only a handful of us show up the first time it would just be a friendly game, but I'm down to throw in 5 or a disc to make things interesting :)

Sounds perfectly fine to me. I'm down for anything. When you say discs, do you mean everyone donates one to the "pile" before play and the winner takes them all?

The way I've always done it was everyone who's playing tosses a disc into the "pile", and the 2nd place team gets their back while the winning team splits the rest (up to them how they split them up).

At the mini I played inb texarkana we did winner takes all when it came to cash, unless we had more than 4 teams playing, in which case 2nd place got their money back. If we eventually have a really big group, I'd probably use pdga guidelines, which I think pays the top 40%...but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I know im in for sure. I do want to post and clarify what "Flip Doubles" is. Flip Doubles is when partners are paired up randomly, by flipping discs. This allows for a greater possibility of equal teams, instead of the best guys partnering up every time and dominating the field.

Some mini's use playing cards to generate the random teams. For example, If there are 8 people who show up for the mini -- 2 Kings, 2 Queens, 2 Jacks, and 2 10's are shuffled up and layed faced down. The players randomly draw cards, and are partnered with the player who has their corresponding playing card.

I prefer the playing card method, especially when there are a lot of players. It eliminates the confusion sometimes associated with all the disc flipping. Nevertheless, I think the random doubles is a great mini format that can include players of all skill levels.

I'm in for 5 cash or a disc. If we do a disc, I'm thinking we might need some kind of criteria for the disc. That way everyone doesn't bring their most beat up dx disc to throw in.

As far as players who just want to play for fun, I'm cool with that. Do note though that the random doubles format gives everyone a chance to be competitive.

Can't wait til tomorrow!

Tonight should be fun! I'm cool with either way.. If we decide to do discs I think it should be:

No DX Plastic
Newish Condition

Tonight's really the kick off event.. So we can probably come up with more specifics once we're all together. Anyone else planning on making the Audubon mini tonight at 6:00 besides those that have already expressed interest?

This weeks game was awesome...thanks to all who came out!

I'd like to propose a small change for next week...same time and day, but I think we should meet in the parking lot near that runs along Hole 7. If we meet there, we'll have 5 different holes nearby (7, 8, 9, 10, and 16), so we can easily split up into smaller groups. It was great playing with everyone on the same card, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to finish before dark ;) Meeting there will also will also provide us with several "practice" baskets to warm up on.

What does everyone think about that?

Also, do we want to start an optional $1 ace pot?

Probably gonna be another hot one tomorrow, so bring plenty of water to the mini. Still at 6pm, BUT this time let's meet at the parking lot between 7's tee and 16's tee...it'll be much easier to split up into smaller groups from there. I'm down to keep the "$5 or premium plastic disc" (in good shape) option open for entry fee if you guys are...at least for now. Who's in this week?

One disc doesn't sound like a bad idea for a once a month kind of thing...could make for some very interesting rounds at audubon :)

Ill see you guys at 6. Don't forget we're NOT meeting at hole 1 this week. Meet in the parking lot to the left (south-ish) of hole 16's teebox. Bring a lot of water!

Yeah, an official looking sign is what I'd like...this one was just spur of the moment and done with little time. I'm at the course right now flagging a few of the less obvious tees, and the course is freshly mowed and looking good. If the clouds roll in and the breeze stays, it might not be so hot afterall.

A couple of things regarding this week's mini:

1) If there aren't any objections, I'd like to start going with $5 as the ONLY option for entry (no more discs instead of cash). Once we start getting big turnouts, payout will be too complicated with cash and plastic. So starting this week (6/9/10) you must pay $5 cash to play. That cool?

2) If parking is an issue again this week, we'll probably have to meet closer to the main parking lot next time. I'm thinking we could meet just up the park road from hole 1 (near the playground). That way there's plenty of parking spaces AND several holes nearby so we can split up into several groups. For THIS week, though, let's meet at the same spot as last time.

See you guys Wednesday!

I'm gonna be at the course at 6 to flag some more holes if anyone wants tp join. It might rain tommorow (40% chance in the afternoon), but a little water never hurt anyone :)

I'm going to go to the course around 4 to see how the tees are looking after the rain (which didn't last TOO long)...I'll post an update for anyone not sure about playing. As added incentive for those willing to brave the wetness, I have 2 brand new discs that I'll be giving away as CTP prizes today. Details at mini sign-up...

I got 2 words for you guys: BLUE TEES!!!! I'll be flagging those bad-boys sometime this week, so keep an eye out. I'll be making up new blue tees on holes that don't already have one, and may move some of the existing ones that are no longer playable (5, 13, 14). If it goes well this week, I might start alternating between the 2 sets of tees, or just play the blues once a month. What do you guys think?

Rusty even though I haven't been out to play one of your minis it sounds like your doing a great job! Your doing what the players want giving out stuff for the CTP'S which you came up with, maintaining the course, now hopefully I can make it out to one!! Just wanted to let you know great job your killing it!

Thanks Chan...you're gonna make me blush! The maintenace being done at the course is all because of the city workers, I've just been flagging and trying to get the word out about our mini. I know Audubon isn't the most well-maintained course in the area, but its way ahead of where it was 6 years ago when I started playing, and it could be top-notch with a little dedicated work. So, next time you're out playing and you see a city worker mowing or doing whatever, tell him thanks and that we (all disc golfers) appreciate the work they do. My goal is that the city will eventually see us as a positive force in the park, working towards improving it...not just a bunch of sweaty guys throwing round, plastic things.

Just got finished marking the blue tees...tomorrow should be fun! Lowes didn't have any blue flags (go figure), so they're marked with white flags with the hole numbers written on them. I used the exiting blue tees on all holes except 3, 5, 9, 11, 12, 14, 15, and 18...I'll give details on those at the player meeting. Almost all of the blues are shorter (exceptions being 1, 4, 5, 10 and 16), so there should be a lot more birdies this week. See you guys tomorrow night!

Just in casy anyone is wondering, we'll be going back to the yellow tees this week. I'll most likely just stick with those until all of the blue tees are permanently marked...there's just too good of a chance that the blue flags will come up missing between the time I place them and the time the mini starts. So, unless I hear a lot of people demanding another round from the blues, we'll be sticking with the yellow tees for a while. On another note, try to bring someone new with you this week...it was really exciting seeing 15 people last week, and idm sure we can get 20+ if we all spread the word. See you all wednesday!

19 PEOPLE...and that was without 5 or 6 of you regulars :) Big thanks to all the people who came out for the first time - it was good to see some faces from BB and Paschall! PS - optional $1 ace pot starting next week. If we keep attendance up like this, we'll have a $100 pot in no time! Kevin B nearly had an ace on 16 tonight (splashed out of the chains), so I'm sure he's happy to hear this ;)

We got a lot of rain in Garland yesterday, but it held off all day today...at least it did at my house, and I'm just down the street from the course. So, I'm going to check the tees out tomorrow morning to see if they're dry yet. Even if they're muddy, I'll still be at the course at 6 in case anyone is hardcore enough for some Audubon mud golf.

I'm at the course right now (8:30am) and its still pretty muddy. Some of the holes don't look so bad, but others (hole 1 for example) look pretty sloppy still. Also, it looks like someone pulled up most of the flags I put out last week, but most people know the yellow tees well. I'll be here at normal sign-up time in case anyone still shows up.

Damn...I REALLY underestimated the hardcore-itude of Audubon disc golfers. 18 people at tonights mini, playing in the rain and sloppy mud...that's some serious manliness the likes of which Chuck Norris himself would bow down before ;) Thanks to all who showed up, and sorry for assuming that nobody would brave the rain. To show my appreciation, I'll be putting up a disc from my personal stash of collectibles as a post-round (probably on the dark) CTP prize next Wednesday. Thanks again everybody!

No problem Jones...ill start holding onto the cards and posting scores on here. We had a 2-way tie for first last night that we split since it was already 9:45 when we finished. Kevin Miller / Me and Nate / Brad (so sorry if I got your name wrong) each shot a 52 and split $80 between the four of us...I'll have to find the rest of the cards before I can post the other scores. Expect a big crowd the next time the weather is nice...I have a feeling that the entire BB Owens crew will be there!

Brian...had the first two letters right :) Tell him I said congrats, and that we all expect to see him again next week. On a side note, Miller, are you able to change thread titles on here? If so, can we change the name if this one to "Official Audubon Mini Thread" or something like that? The word "official" just makes things seem so much more, oh I don't know...official?

I am going to try and make it out in the next few weeks, it sounds like yall have a really good group. Just to make sure im clear bring $5 (or $6 for ace pot), meet at the lot around 17 and maybe wear pants b/c of poison ivy?

Yes, everything you said is correct...I would have started the ace pot yesterday, but I had to rush through the "player meeting" since I was late showing up. Pants or high socks would work well, though for the most part you can see the poison ivy before you're actually in it. It'd be great to see you out there this coming week...I'm expecting a good turnout, and there will be a post-round CTP contest for everyone who plays the mini.

Yep, CTP = closest to pin. Basically, after the round is over I'll pick a tee area and a basket (a shot short enough that everyone has a chance to get close), and each person gets one throw. Whoever is closest wins the prize.

T-minus 20 hours to go, and counting...should be a really good turnout this week, especially if the rains holds off. CTP prize will be a CFR Augusta Wraith from my personal stash...its technically not brand new, since I threw it in a field twice, but there's no ink and barely any sign of use. We'll do it the same as last time...throwing to 16s basket after payout is done. See you all tomorrow!

In the event of rain what do yall do? Play through it? Call it? Casual quick round? Make david follow you around with an umbrella?

When I started running this thing, I honestly never imagined that we'd have more than a handful of people showing up on a regular basis...I'm genuinely surprised and incredibly happy at just how wrong I was :) 31 players last night! Also, we now have $24 in the ace pot, thanks to everyone who paid their dollar and to Charlie for his generous donation to help jump start the pot. Big, BIG thanks to the BB crew for bringing everyone out, and to everyone else that took the time to play.

A few things about this week's mini: 1) Starting this week, the cards we draw for partners will also have hole assignments on them. Hopefully this will help us get started more quickly and with less confusion. 2) If there is a tie for 1st the players have the option to split, playoff, or throw CTP. ALL OTHER TIES will be decided by CTP on hole 16. This is to keep us from playing too long in the dark. 3) Starting this week I'll have an envelope for the optional $1 ace pot(currently at $24) that you'll have to write your name on the outside of after paying.

One more thing...this is to clear the air of any confusion about the issue of players leaving before all the scores are in. I understand that we finish pretty late, and people may have to leave for various reasons, so I'm going to be as fair as I can about it. If your team cashed out-right (meaning that you aren't tied with another team) and you have to leave before payout, I'll hold on to your portion of the payout until the next time I see you. However, if you leave and your team is tied with others, you forfeit your portion back to the pot. If your team is in a CTP tie-breaker, the remaining team member will only get one shot. If your team was tied for 1st and the remaining players decide not to split the cash, the remaining single partner will have to play Cali (one extra shot per hole). Hopefully we won't have to rely on these rules very often. Why someone would shoot under par at Audubon and then leave before payout is beyond me :)

CTP for this week...a new 175g CFR Champion Viper. Same shot as last week. The new cards we're using to determoie partners will have hole assignments AND will decide who gets the scorecard for each group, so getting started should be much easier this week. I made enough cards for 40 people...hopefully I won't have enough :)

I'm a couple days late, but here are the winning teams & scores...I apologize, but I can't recall who won the playoffs, so I'm just listing scores:

Brett/Jack (47), Ruben/Nate & Jason/Mike (50), Justin/Scott (51), Juan/Rob & Sam/Kevin M (52). Ace pot is now at $44! Sorry for the 3-4 card backup behind my group...I forgot to put the odd team on hole 6, where there wasn't anybody behind them for 5 holes. I'll fix that next week, and it should shorten the round by at least 20 minutes. Congrats to Coan for winning the CTP! Next time I have a CTP it'll be during the round, so we won't have to do it in the dark. Finally, as the days get shorter I'll probably start having us play some of the shorter blue tees on a few holes, just to make the round a bit quicker. PS - holes 11 through 15 and 18 were mowed yesterday.

Ehh...maybe. I'm planning on us playing 2, 7, and 13 from the blues this coming Wed. I had plans to eventually add 14 blue, but I need to do some serious limb trimming first. I also heard complaints about all the roots on that blue tee tripping people up...so we probably won't use that one for the next couple weeks...but eventually!

I like those limbs. It forces a low flat drive, but the roots are kinda gnarly. But I can't see us doing permanent damage to the tree so we can skip that one till we can plan something better for it.

Sadly, i wont be there this week...im helping my dad out with his summer camp through thursday. My fiance, Kathy, will be bringing the team cards, score cards, and ace pot $ to the course around 530...and if david is still game he and kevin miller will probably be handling sign-ups and payout. Same format as last week...2, 7, and 13 from the blue tees, no mandos on 12, and 2 meter rule is in effect.

Some of the holes are for sure rough, but everything is absolutely 3-able. You going to make it to the mini this week?

Does this still start at 6pm (thats what the beginning of the thread mentioned)?

I would love to come out to one, but I don't get home until 6:15 :P Getting out to auduban would probably take another 20-25 minutes

I may have to plan ahead and just go there from work with a change of clothes :)

Got the mando on 12 done today (thanks again to David for providing the sign)...just the single mando on the large tree near the turn in the fairway. There will be a drop zone marked for the mini, but I doubt it'll be needed very often for doubles. Also got some trimming done on 13 for the blue tee, and a little on 7 blue too...but didn't bring my step ladder, so couldn't get anything higher than about 8 feet :) See you guys on wednesday!

Two new records were set tonight...1) we had 35 players, and 2) the winning team shot a jaw-dropping 43!! Great shooting Brent and Bobby! Ace pot is now at $130...we had a close call today when Brian skipped up and nailed the side of the basket on hole 9. To those who played today, did the trimming on 7 blue and 13 blue help? I'll try to trim on 2 near the blue tee before next wednesday.

Updated my old review (gave it another half star...will add more with more improvements...gotta be fair) and in the process of adding new pics. I only have shots of the first 3 holes, as my 4gb memory card doesnt want to cooperate. Will take pics of the rest of the course soon and post them on DGCourseReview.com. If you havent already, please join that site and review Audubon...pleeese!

Audubon is gonna be muddy as hell, but I will still be there at 545ish to take sign-ups. I won't, however, be able to play...so I'll have to pass the payout $ to someone else or come back to the course at the end of the round. My fiance fell and broke her knee cap in half last night and can't walk for a few weeks, so I'll be taking care of her while you guys play...probably the same nxt week too. See you guys out there tonight!

Good mini tonight.. We had 14 players show. I'm sure the rainy conditions scared some off, but the temperature was awesome during the mini!

I'm not positive on all of the scores.. but I know Dustin and myself won with a 45 (-9). Second place was Rob and Brent with a 47 (-7). We had two teams tied at 48 (-6) for third.

Winners took home:

1st - $40
2nd - $20
3rd - $10

See you guys next week :)

We had 17 players last night in the rain...several more came out but bailed before the round. Of the 17, only 5 teams finished. Chris mcd and dustin won with a 48, me and snappy took 2nd with a 50, and tom and chad took 3rd with a 52.
